Morgan MacLean, Top Agent with Grassroots Realty Group in Grande Prairie, Alberta might seem like an unlikely REALTOR. However, the former professional hockey players says that much of what he has learned traveling the world as an athlete, has translated seamlessly into his work in helping buyers and sellers with both residential and commercial sales. In fact, it was a former teammate of the farm team of the Dallas Stars, who first piqued Morgan’s curiosity about entering the industry. “He encouraged me to consider real estate as a career after I retired.” Morgan recalls.
When Morgan returned to his home town of Grande Prairie, he did just that, implementing the discipline he’d developed over his hockey career. “I was trained to act professional, look professional and be professional at all times. As athletes we were always under the microscope and that is how I conduct myself as a REALTOR as well. I enjoy wearing a suit. I’m young. ambitious, honest and extremely competitive,” he says.
Suffice to say. those traits have served Morgan extremely well as a REALTOR.
Fortunately, Morgan says that he is precisely the type of agent to be handling this type of volume. “I’m young and I don’t have my own family yet, so it is okay for me to stay at the office until the wee hours of the morning. I’m a workhorse. I was also born and raised in Grande Prairie and I can’t afford to make a mistake or leave a negative impression on my clients. These are my neighbors and my friends. I have to be able to look myself in the mirror and know that I did my due diligence for every client. Anytime a client leaves my office they are going to know that I’ve done my absolute best for them,” he says.
Continuing Morgan adds, “I believe that anything you put your heart into, you should fully commit yourself to, and I do that with my clients.” Giving his all pays off, as evidenced by the countless relationships he’s built with his buyers and sellers. “I don’t do auto-emails. I know I delete them, when I get them. I keep in touch on
a personal level. I call clients. I go out for dinner or coffee with them. I believe in keeping things personal,” he says.
Morgan is happy to do whatever it takes for his clients for one simple reason. He finds the work incredibly rewarding. “I have lived with many different families all over the world. I’ve met thousands of people, and I really like people. I’m a people- person. I’m very comfortable working with others, and I enjoy helping others,” he says. In particular, he says some of the most rewarding work that he has been able to do, is that of helping immigrants begin building a life in Alberta. “Knowing that I helped these hardworking people get into a property feels terrific. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be able to help people from all over the world to create a whole new life,” he adds.
Thus far, everything Morgan has done, has proven incredibly successful, which makes Morgan appear wise
far beyond his years. In fact, in September of 2014, at just 26 years old, Morgan was the youngest agent named to the 2% Realty Edge top 100 List in Western Canada. It’s not surprising that he made the list, as he carried as many as 47 Listings at a time.
In addition to his more than full- time work as a top producing REALTOR®, Morgan also has hob- bies and passions galore. From guitars to cars, to researching new real estate opportunities in countries such as Belize, golf, snowboarding, and of course playing hockey, Morgan is not one for sitting around. “If I’m not in the office, I’m doing something physical. Sports are my stress reliever,” he says.
Obviously Morgan is busy, but wouldn’t have it any other way. In fact, he plans to continue to grow and expand his team. “I will continue to bring agents onto my team in the future. In addition, my assistant Morgan Guerin is currently in the process of earning her real estate license, and we are planning to open a building company in the future. In my travels I’ve seen some really beautiful homes and look forward to bringing some new fresh ideas to Grande Prairie,” he says.
